Two glasses of pick-me-up fruit cocktail with fresh fruit garnish

Pick-me-up fruit cocktail

This delicious, cool and refreshing summer fruit cocktail is a pick-me-up for those moments when you need a coffee without the side effects! The ingredients are simple: multifruit juice, orange juice, ice cubes and a shot of Ringana chi. Mix and garnish with fresh fruit, and you’ve got a revitalising chilled long drink that’ll get you back on your feet again in no time! Chi contains caffeine from green coffee beans, guarana, and ginseng, among other natural energy-providing substances.

About Ringana chi

Chi is one of my favourite Ringana products! It’s my go-to whenever I’m flagging and need a boost. It keeps me alert and active for several hours without experiencing side effects or a low afterwards. Although I love coffee, it does give me undesirable side effects. It makes me feel restless and anxious, nauseous and hungry, all at the same time. Coffee also increases my heart rate, which I hate. At one time, I used to resort to Red Bull – which is arguably worse. The combination of caffeine, taurine, and high levels of sugar results in the brain receiving a dopamine hit. After a while, the brain becomes dependent on this feel-good hormone. That’s why people who suddenly stop drinking Red Bull may feel extremely tired, and experience low energy levels and mood, leading them to believe that they can’t function properly without them.

I’ve learnt to steer clear of both coffee and Red Bull and go for a healthier alternative instead.

Ringana chi is the answer for me – it’s syrupy, fruity and deliciously piquant. I adore the flavour, so when I’m in a hurry, I just dilute it with water. Sometimes, when I’m feeling hot and thirsty as well as drained, there’s nothing better than an energising ice-cold long drink!

Ringana chi – ingredients

  • Caffeine from green coffee beans – Green coffee beans are raw, unroasted coffee beans. They contain high levels of a group of antioxidants known as chlorogenic acids, which are thought to provide numerous benefits. Apart from the change in flavour, roasting coffee also kills much of the chlorogenic acid. Without getting too scientific, chlorogenic acid is something most people could do with a little more of in their everyday diets. Read more about green coffee beans.
  • L-theanine prolongs the effect of caffeine.
  • Vitamin C from acerola fruit powder stimulates natural energy and helps reduce tiredness and fatigue.
  • Guarana seed extract boosts alertness.
  • Maltodextrin, dextrose and D-ribose deliver fast, long-lasting energy.
  • Ginseng root is an antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory effects. It also helps to regulate blood sugar levels.
  • Concentrated pineapple and lemon juice round off the fruity flavour.
  • Ginger contains pungent compounds and gives Ringana chi its unique piquant taste.

How to make a pick-me-up fruit cocktail

Ingredients

You’ll find the exact quantities of each ingredient in the recipe card at the bottom of this page.

A jug of juice, ice cubes, Ringana chi, two glasses with glass straws and a garnish of fresh fruit.
  • Fresh orange juice or multi-fruit juice – I used a 50/50 mix of fresh orange juice and multi-fruit juice. I got mine from Aldi in the fridge aisle. It’s 100% juice from direct pressing, not from concentrate. You could also use pineapple juice instead.
  • Ringana chi – One bottle is sufficient for two 300 ml glasses of fruit cocktail.
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh fruit for garnish – I used peach and apricot, but you could also use pineapple, mango or banana, depending on what’s in season.

Instructions

  • Pour the fruit juice into a glass or jug.
  • Add ice cubes and Ringana chi.
  • Stir well and add a garnish of fresh fruit.
  • Enjoy!

Can you make this pick-me-up fruit cocktail ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can make this cocktail several hours in advance and store it in the fridge. Don’t add the ice until you are ready to serve to avoid diluting the flavours.
